Well, the news is out (I've been sitting on it for a few days...uncomfortably, I might add): yours truly has won the 2015 Bristol Short Story Prize!
It's a big deal (there were 2400+ entries this year), and I'm over the moon about it. Given the vagaries of the contest and publishing world these days, a writer can never really do much more than write a story he/she is satisfied with, send it out, and hope it lands well. As such. I'm even more surprised and grateful that this story landed so well.
The Bristol win caps a very good season for me: two contest wins, a few publication credits, two longlists, a shortlist, and a couple of honourable mentions, and this writer has to feel pretty good about his progress. (Or, to give in to my base instincts--forgive my French--and pump my fist and admit that these days I'm feeling like a real, fairdinkum, f***-yeah writer.)
Watch this space, folks. This year will echo, I'm sure of it.
