EXCITING NEWS: Because NBL in part deals with a kid in crisis, at the launch I'll be raising funds in support of the Kids Help Phone, an amazing charity that provides help and support for kids 24/7.

GRAND PRIZE DRAW: For every $10 you donate to KHP (click button below for link), you'll earn one entry into the draw for the grand prize: a stack of books from our sponsors, including copies of my novels NOTHING BUT LIFE, BOY, and SAINTS, UNEXPECTED, Amanda Leduc's brand new novel, Roz Nay's Hurry Home, a couple titles from Invisible Publishing, a selection of titles curated by the City & the City Books and JH Gordon Books, as well as Kelly S. Thompson's stunning memoir, GIRLS NEED NOT APPLY (and others, too!).

PRIZE FROM RELAY COFFEE: once again, for Hamilton attendees, Relay Coffee has generously donated a coffee and tea gift box!

PRIZE FOR THE WRITERS: my amazing writer friends Kelly S. Thompson and Stephanie Vandermeulen have graciously agreed to donate some of their time to work with the winners to polish a short story or essay.

About the novel

Dills and his mom have returned to Hamilton, her hometown, hoping to leave the horrors of Windsor behind. But it’s impossible to escape the echoes of tragedy, and trouble always follows trouble.

When Dills hurts a classmate at his new school, it comes out in court that he was in the Windsor High library when the shooter came in. But he won’t talk about what he saw, what he still sees whenever he closes his eyes. He can’t. He definitely can’t tell anyone that the Windsor Shooter is his stepfather Jesse, that Jesse can speak into his mind from hundreds of kilometres away, and that Dills still loves him even though he committed an unspeakable crime.

Kids Help Phone and Covid-19

The stresses of Covid have increased demand for services like the KHP, and they need all the support they can gather. I've posted a fact sheet (at right) about how the Kids Help Phone has responded to the pandemic.
